Why She Stays or Goes Back

She may stay simply because she fears the unknown.

Leaving will result in drastic changes in her life and the lives of her children that seem formidable.  She cannot know what will happen or how she will be able to cope.  The possibilities may be overwhelming. She may conclude with the old adage, "Better the devil you know than the devil you don't!"  But leaving is not what she wants. She just wants the abuse to stop, and only the abuser can make that change.
