Traditional female socialization teaches many woman to feel they need a partner--even an abusive one--in order to to be complete or accepted by society. For those women who share this sense of self, leaving will never be a simple thing. But why should she have to consider leaving at all?  She just wants him to stop abusing her.  And only he can do that.
