In fact, abusers are often quite loving and lovable when not being abusive. The kind and loving side is just what she loves about him.  She remembers what he used to be like or sees the things about him she fell in love with. So it is no simple task to decide what to do about the abuse.  The real question is not 'Why does she stay?' but 'Why does he abuse her?'
