In order to escape, her children would have to leave their school, she would have to leave all her friends and neighbors behind. The home she has put together is a real extension of her self and her dreams. For some women it would be like being in the Witness Protection program--she could never have any contact with her old life.  But leaving is not what she wants. She simply wants the abuse to stop, and only the abuser can make that happen.
